Three Things You Need To Be A Crime & Trauma Cleaner

Mar 20, 2021

There are many aspects to being a crime and trauma scene cleaner, but there are three traits that stand out. The first and possibly most important is you must be compassionate. You must understand you will be helping people on what may be the worst day of their lives. Every word and action matters. When dealing with victims of a violent crime, suicide, or other dramatic events you must have the  mindset of help first business second.

The second trait that is important is physical fitness. You must be able to actually do the job. Crime and trauma cleaning is not a desk job. You must be comfortable wearing a bio-suit in extreme heat and working in awkward and uncomfortable positions. Whether its a suicide in a cramped bathroom or an undiscovered death you will find yourself working on your hands and knees, scrubbing, cutting, stretching, and  moving objects for hours all while wearing a full bio-suit and respirator that restricts your breathing.

The third trait that is necessary is whether or not you can stomach the work. It may seem obvious but until you try you just don't know. It is one thing to watch a move or tv show, but can you actually handle the reality of dealing with the aftermath of a suicide, crime or undiscovered death? Being a crime and trauma cleaner means you will be touching, wiping, and smelling human bio matter. Blood, feces, urine, fat, and body tissue. You must be able to cope with the realities of the job.
